Filming has wrapped on indie drama “Girl on the Edge,” (formally “The Secret Place”) starring Taylor Spreitler (“Melissa & Joey”), Peter Coyote, Gil Bellows, Mackenzie Phillips, Rex Lee, Elizabeth Pena, Amy Davidson and Amy Price Francis.

Jay Silverman directed in his feature debut from a script he co-wrote with “Blue Valentine” scribe Joey Curtis along with Joe Gamache.

Keefe Kaupanger-Swacker and Will Newman produced and Bethany Cerrona co-produced  for Jay Silverman Prods. Production on “The Secret Place” took place at locations in and around Los Angeles and Moab, Utah.

“In all honesty, choosing to shoot in Los Angeles helped keep production costs down,” Silverman told Variety. “We capitalized on a great horse ranch location within the zone and didn’t have one bad weather day in January or February.  Additionally, most all of the cast lives in L.A. so we avoided traveling them to another state plus all the associated costs.

Based on a true story, “Girl on the Edge” recounts the journey of a 15-year-old girl who is victimized by an online predator. Unable to cope with the resulting trauma, her behavior becomes increasingly self-destructive until her family is left with no choice but to send her to a treatment center for troubled youth.

Silverman was executive producer and co-creator of the A&E TV series “The Cleaner” and produced over 40 episodes of “One on One with Cathy Hughes” for the TV One Network. He’s been a commercial director for 38 years with clients including Pepsi, McDonalds, and Disney.
